A significant security presence was evident in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, on Tuesday, as tension filled the air ahead of the nationwide #October1Fearless protest. As the situation unfolded, it was noted that a large group of individuals, suspected to be anti-protesters, gathered at key locations such as the Federal Secretariat and Pleasure Park—the same sites where August’s protests had taken place.

Despite the presence of these suspected anti-protesters, who remained stationary and did not engage in demonstrations, the number of security personnel at these locations increased in response. Various security forces, including the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Civil Defence, and other agencies, were actively patrolling the city.

In spite of the heavy security deployment, reports indicate that local businesses continued to operate normally, with commuters and vehicles moving about without obstruction. At the time of this report, there had been no incidents of violence or disorder
