Naija News recently disclosed that this revelation follows closely on the heels of Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife, son, and the former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, experiencing a helicopter mishap in California merely two weeks ago.
In light of an investigation carried out by the NTSB, witnesses emphasized unfavorable weather conditions in the area during the tragic incident, citing a combination of rain and snow. The NTSB reported that the helicopter, equipped with Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) technology to relay aircraft positions, recorded an escalation in ground speed leading up to the crash.
The report detailed the flight path, indicating departure from Palm Springs International Airport and navigation along US Highway 111 to Interstate (I) 10. The helicopter traversed I-10, crossed San Bernardino International Airport, and followed I-215 to I-15. The ADS-B data was interrupted near Barstow, California, due to likely terrain interference, and resumed near Halloran Springs/I-15 exit at 2207.
According to the NTSB, the final ADS-B data points revealed an east-southeast trajectory, gradual descent, and an increase in ground speed. The crash site was pinpointed 0.31 miles east-southeast of the last data point, situated at an elevation of approximately 3,360 ft msl. Witnesses on I-15 reported to law enforcement about observing a ‘fireball’ to the south, emphasizing adverse weather conditions with rain and snow.
Law enforcement located the accident site in high mountainous desert terrain, with debris scattered about 300 ft along a 120° magnetic heading from the initial impact point. The NTSB confirmed the identification of all major helicopter components at the accident
