A former Assistant Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mohammed Ngoshe, has shed light on the agency’s recent operation at the Lagos State House of Assembly.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Ngoshe disclosed that the House of Assembly had invited the DSS due to fears of possible violence stemming from the ongoing leadership crisis.

DSS Acted to Prevent Chaos

Ngoshe explained that the State Security Service (SSS) had been closely monitoring the situation as tensions escalated. When intelligence suggested an imminent breakdown of order, the DSS intervened to prevent a full-blown crisis.

“There was a build-up of events in Lagos, and the DSS was tracking all developments. At the point when things were about to spiral out of control, action was necessary to restore order,” he stated.

Security Agencies Must Act Swiftly

According to Ngoshe, security agencies are duty-bound to act proactively when lives, properties, or national institutions are at risk, without waiting for explicit directives.

“If you see trouble brewing, with a high risk of loss of life or destruction of property, do you wait for an order to act? No. It is your responsibility,” he questioned.

He emphasized that protecting government institutions, including state legislatures, is a core mandate of the DSS.

“The House of Assembly is a key political institution. Ensuring its safety and smooth operation falls under the primary duties of the State Security Service whenever threats emerge,” he affirmed.

Timeliness in Security Operations Is Crucial

Ngoshe further warned that delays in acting on intelligence could render security efforts ineffective.

“In security operations, timing is everything. If you fail to act promptly on intelligence, the threat materializes, and that is a failure,” he concluded.
