The NEC, which is the party’s second-highest decision-making body, will deliberate on the report of its National Zoning Committee and receive updates from the National Convention Planning Committee.
Emerging reports indicate that the zoning committee has recommended retaining the current arrangement, with the national chairmanship remaining in the North.
At present, the chairmanship is zoned to the North and micro-zoned to the North-Central, while the office of the National Secretary is zoned to the South and micro-zoned to the South-East.
Other northern slots include the Deputy National Chairman (North), National Organising Secretary, National Treasurer, National Youth Leader, and National Legal Adviser.
For the South, the slots cover Deputy National Chairman (South), Deputy National Secretary, National Publicity Secretary, National Financial Secretary, National Auditor, and National Woman Leader.
However, party sources told Daily Sun that some positions may be swapped among the geopolitical zones. Under the proposed arrangement, the South-West may produce the National Secretary, the South-South the Deputy National Chairman (South), and the South-East the Deputy National Secretary.
A top source at the PDP National Secretariat explained:
“Tomorrow’s NEC means a lot to the party and the various interests ahead of the 2027 contest. Whatever is decided will shape the outlook of the party for the next general elections.”
In the build-up to today’s NEC, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) convened a crucial meeting yesterday at the Wadata Plaza headquarters, while the National Caucus was also scheduled to meet at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
Those in attendance included the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu; Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshedo; and other members of the NWC.
