The Benue State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal, currently sitting at the NBA House in Abuja, is set to deliver judgments today, April 12, 2025, on petitions arising from the local government elections conducted on October 5, 2024.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The cases before the tribunal involve several local government areas, including Gboko, Tarka, Makurdi, Gwer West, Gwer East, Guma, and Buruku. These verdicts are eagerly awaited following weeks of intense legal arguments and meticulous scrutiny of the electoral processes and outcomes.

This appellate tribunal was constituted to review decisions issued by the initial Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal. Due to security concerns and a strike by judiciary staff, the tribunal was relocated from Makurdi to Abuja in March 2025.

Meanwhile, Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has declared that his administration has successfully absorbed all other political structures in the state into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during his first official media chat on Thursday in Makurdi, Alia emphasized that his 2023 electoral success was powered by the will of the people—not by any political elite—and he believes the same pattern will repeat in the next election.

“I consider myself a people-centric leader,” Alia said. “My strength lies in grassroots support, not in political deals or endorsements.”

He added, “As it stands, we’ve effectively merged every other political establishment into our party. Of course, there may still be smaller parties trying to surface, but by ‘collapse,’ I mean that these groups see what we’re doing, and their concerns are being addressed. They’re motivated by the progress we’ve made.”

Alia acknowledged that some political forces might attempt to stir disruptions due to sidelined interests but insisted such efforts would be inconsequential to a united APC. With confidence, he declared the path to victory in 2027 already clearing up.
