A tragic incident unfolded in Edo State, as Mrs. Nata Igbinovia, a mother of four, met a brutal end while attempting to intervene in a neighborhood dispute. The distressing event occurred on Saturday night, April 27, 2024, at Okpagha-Ewuare, Eyaen quarters, situated on the outskirts of Benin City along Auchi Road.

Confirming the incident, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, spokesperson of the State Police Command, revealed that the alleged perpetrator, Ayo Mr. Philip, has been apprehended. “Yes, the Command is aware of it, investigation has begun, the suspect, Philip Ayo, has been arrested yesterday. Investigation into the murder case is still on,” he stated.

According to the victim’s daughter, Patience, the fatal confrontation erupted while her mother attempted to defuse a heated altercation between her nephew and their neighbors, the alleged assailants. Patience recounted that during the altercation, Mr. Philip brandished a knife in an attempt to harm her cousin, but her mother intervened, sustaining injuries in the process.

Tragically, the situation escalated when the suspect’s son emerged from their residence wielding an axe, striking Mrs. Igbinovia on her back. Simultaneously, the father, still armed with the knife, inflicted fatal wounds on the victim’s chest. Despite efforts to render aid, the suspects fled the scene before assistance arrived.

A compassionate resident swiftly arranged transportation to convey the gravely injured Mrs. Igbinovia to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Authorities from the Eyaen police division have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the heinous act, aiming to bring justice to the grieving family and the community at large.
