The Speaker, Tajudeen Abass, recently announced the addition of three committees, bringing the total to 137.
Defending their decision, the House’s spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, emphasized that Nigerians should recognize and commend the House for its effort to bring governance closer to the people through improved oversight.
Rotimi explained that the establishment of these committees aligns with the current political landscape and is essential to create the appropriate structure for reinforcing oversight functions and facilitating seamless engagement.
He also praised the House leadership for taking a bold step in involving members of a diverse parliament.
Furthermore, he refuted claims that the newly-formed 70 Parliamentary Friendship Groups duplicate the roles of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Diaspora.
