House Of Representatives Committee Seeks Armed Forces Support To Resolve Cameroon-Nigeria Boundary Dispute

During a courtesy visit to General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), at the Defence headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja, Hon.

Lar, in a statement issued by Brig.-Gen Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, explained that the committee’s establishment was prompted by concerns over the displacement of Boki local government area in Rivers State by Cameroon.

She emphasized that the House had consequently formed this ad hoc committee to “investigate and assess the case thoroughly, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the situation and ensuring maximum security for the disputed territory.”

The committee also expressed its condolences to the CDS for the recent loss of military personnel in Imo state. Furthermore, the committee’s mandate includes overseeing security arrangements in the disputed areas.

Hon. Lar commended the CDS and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for the significant improvement in security during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff.

In response, General Musa assured the committee of adequate security and logistical support. He also expressed his gratitude to the National Assembly for their ongoing support to the Armed Forces, particularly in the area of funding.

He acknowledged the daunting task before the committee but expressed confidence in the abilities of the individuals involved to conduct a thorough investigation.
