Bago made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Victims Support Fund (VSF) at the Government House in Minna, the state capital.

The governor emphasized that Niger State is one of the states most severely affected by terrorism. He expressed deep concern regarding the significant negative consequences of terrorist activities in the state, stating that “the situation could be worse than that of Borno State.”

Bago attributed this situation to the state’s size, fertile land, abundant water bodies, and illegal mining activities.

While expressing appreciation to the VSF for extending assistance to those affected by terrorist activities, Governor Bago called on the federal government, international development partners, and concerned Nigerians to provide additional support.

The Executive Director of VSF, Prof Nana Tanko, explained that their visit to the state aimed to complement the state government’s efforts in providing aid to terrorism victims.

She revealed that after assessing the situation, the organization identified three local government areas for intervention: Shiroro, Lapai, and Kontagora.

Prof. Nana noted that there was a shortage of food supplies in these three local government areas and announced that 1,000 households from each of them, totaling 3,000 households, would benefit from the intervention.

She further outlined the organization’s plan to help rebuild the livelihoods of the affected population by supporting skilled entrepreneurs and providing fertilizer and agricultural inputs to farmers, thereby facilitating agricultural activities in the state.

The food items to be distributed include 10kg of rice, beans, vegetable oil, salt, and sugar.
