How Is This Roadworthy? — Nigerians Fume Over Shocking State Of Lagos Danfo
Nigerians have expressed concern over the condition of a visibly dilapidated commercial bus spotted carrying passengers on a road in Lagos.
According to Bush Radio Academy, a video circulating on social media showed an old yellow Danfo bus operating despite appearing to be in extremely poor condition, with significant damage to its body.
The vehicle’s driver-side section appeared severely damaged, with part of the roof and side structure broken, leaving the bus without what appeared to be a proper driver’s door.
Despite the extent of the visible damage, several passengers were seen inside the vehicle as it continued its journey on the road.
The footage has generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning how such a vehicle could be allowed to operate commercially and whether it had undergone the required roadworthiness and safety checks.
Some social media users expressed concern for the safety of both the passengers and the driver, arguing that the condition of the bus could expose those inside to serious danger in the event of an accident.
One user questioned the apparent attitude of road safety authorities, suggesting that agencies responsible for enforcing traffic and vehicle safety regulations may have overlooked the condition of the bus.
Other commenters criticised passengers for boarding a vehicle that appeared unsafe, while others used the incident to highlight broader concerns about commercial transportation and road safety in Lagos.
The viral video has consequently reignited discussions about the enforcement of vehicle safety regulations and the responsibility of transport operators and passengers to prioritise safety on Nigerian roads.
