Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had previously ordered the deployment of tactical teams and resources to ensure the quick rescue of the students. An officer involved in the operation explained that the security forces tracked the kidnappers’ location, which led to a confrontation in which one suspect was neutralized.

The source disclosed, “The operation was coordinated by the National Security Adviser in Abuja. The kidnapped medical students were tracked down to Ajide forest in the Ukwonyo council ward, Ado LGA of Benue State.

“You may have noticed helicopters flying overhead in recent days as military, DSS, and police officers were deployed. Fortunately, we located the kidnappers on Friday as they attempted to shield themselves with the victims. Under significant pressure, they tried to escape, resulting in one of them being neutralized and two others being apprehended.”

Another source confirmed that the rescued students were immediately taken to Abuja. “They should be reunited with their families by Monday or Tuesday,” the source added.
