Huge Breakthrough: Whingan Slashes Security Checkpoints On Lagos-Badagry Road

In a statement released on Wednesday, Whingan’s media team highlighted this achievement following a petition submitted by the lawmaker to the National Assembly, addressing the hardships faced by commuters due to excessive checkpoints and extortion by security operatives.
The statement, titled “Security Agencies’ Efforts to Curb Extortion and Abuse along Badagry-Seme Border Corridor Commendable,” outlined the outcomes of a high-level security meeting chaired by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command.
“The meeting approved checkpoints at four key locations: Seme Point, Gbaji Point, Apa Point, and Agbara Point,” the statement read.
On October 16, 2024, Whingan presented a petition on behalf of his constituents, led by Comrade Aladeotan David and his team, during a plenary session at the House of Representatives. The petition highlighted the financial and psychological toll imposed on commuters due to illegal extortion and excessive checkpoints.

Whingan stressed the importance of security personnel performing their duties without infringing on citizens’ rights. The Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abass, acknowledged the petition and directed relevant committees to investigate and resolve the matter.
Whingan commended the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Customs Service, and other security agencies for their swift response and commitment to addressing the issue.
“This decision marks a significant victory for the people of Badagry and all commuters along this crucial route.
“By reducing checkpoints, we are fostering economic growth, alleviating hardships, and protecting the rights of road users,” Whingan said.
He urged the joint task force to ensure strict adherence to the new checkpoint policy and encouraged the public to report any violations using designated contact numbers: +2347088158606 and +2349062011772.
Whingan reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the welfare of his constituents, pledging to closely monitor the situation and continue fighting for the rights and interests of the people of Badagry Federal Constituency.
