Trump had reportedly instructed the U.S. War Department to prepare for potential action if the Nigerian government fails to halt the violence.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday, Momodu urged President Tinubu to “wear his thinking cap” and assemble a competent team capable of addressing Nigeria’s mounting challenges.
According to the veteran journalist, he felt genuine sympathy for Tinubu after watching him speak on Thursday night, noting that the current situation makes this “one of the hardest times to be Nigeria’s president.”
Momodu said:
“The President needs people who can speak with credibility and be listened to — not political jobbers. Tinubu is a master politician; he can get all the governors to join the APC, but we are past that stage now.
Two weeks ago, if anyone had told you that President Tinubu would be in such a precarious situation, he would have dismissed it. But watching him last night, I truly felt for him. This is not an easy time to lead Nigeria. He must now think, not just for himself, but for his team and the entire nation.”
