Popular Yoruba actress Kemisola Apesin, widely known as Kemity, has opened up about her journey into single motherhood and the challenges of having two children with different fathers. She revealed that her first pregnancy occurred just as she was preparing to sit for her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC). Despite the unexpected pregnancy, her mother stood firm on her belief in education and refused to let Kemity get married at the time, instead urging her to complete her studies and acquire a skill—prompting Kemity to learn catering.
“The man who got me pregnant was the first person I was ever intimate with. We planned to marry after my education, and we stayed in touch even after he traveled to Malaysia,” she shared.
However, tragedy struck when he returned to Nigeria unexpectedly and was killed in a hotel robbery. “He didn’t tell anyone he was back, not even me. It was a shock. He was clearly robbed, and that’s how I became a widow,” she added.
Kemity expressed frustration at public criticism: “People say, ‘How can she have children with two men?’ But they don’t know my story. No one prays for this kind of life. I always explain that I am a widow—not a divorcée.”
Seven years after her first child, Kemity met her second partner, with whom she had her second child. The relationship led to a court marriage, but it eventually ended due to infidelity.
“We were married legally. After giving birth, I was teaching while he worked at a fuel station. I also offered private lessons after school hours. But things changed—he became distant and often had midnight phone calls, saying it was work-related. I later discovered he was cheating,” she said.
Through it all, Kemity continues to push forward, sharing her truth to inspire others facing similar challenges.
