I Never Signed Any Divorce Papers — Woman Recounts How Husband Allegedly Ended Their Marriage

Published

A Nigerian woman has recounted how her marriage allegedly collapsed after her husband returned to the United Kingdom without informing her, leaving her and their children in Nigeria and raising questions about the circumstances surrounding their separation.

The woman shared her experience while explaining how the family relocated to the UK in 2022. According to her account, they travelled as a family of four, with her husband as the principal applicant on a student visa and herself and their children listed as dependants.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman said the couple had agreed that she would contribute part of her earnings towards her husband’s tuition fees. She also claimed that she helped cover household expenses, purchased groceries, supported the family financially and contributed towards the purchase of his first car.

However, she alleged that tensions gradually developed in their relationship after her husband began accusing her of prioritising work over family responsibilities.

She further claimed that whenever they disagreed, he would remind her that he was responsible for bringing her to the UK, making her feel that her contributions to the family were being overlooked.

“Anytime we have an argument, he always reminds me how he brought me to the UK, saying I’m ungrateful and not appreciative,” she recounted.

The woman explained that the situation took another turn when the family travelled to Nigeria in September 2025. According to her, her husband had suggested enrolling their daughter in a boarding school to strengthen her Islamic education.

After visiting the school in Ibadan, she travelled with the children to Osun State to spend time with her parents. However, she claimed that when she later attempted to contact her husband, his Nigerian phone number was no longer reachable.

She subsequently discovered, according to her account, that he had returned to the United Kingdom without informing her or the children.

The woman alleged that her husband later sent her WhatsApp messages declaring their marriage over. She also claimed that he sent a document through a disappearing-message format indicating that they had divorced by mutual agreement.

Expressing shock over the development, she insisted that she had neither signed divorce papers nor knowingly agreed to end the marriage.

“I had never signed any divorce papers,” she said, questioning how the document could describe their separation as a mutual decision.

She further alleged that her husband removed her and their children from his visa arrangements, leaving her uncertain about their future and the circumstances surrounding the breakdown of their marriage.

Her account has drawn attention to the difficulties that can arise in relationships involving migration, financial contributions and disagreements over family responsibilities.

However, the claims remain based on the woman’s account, and no independent confirmation or response from her husband was included in the information provided.
