Reports indicate that tensions flared during a Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee hearing on sexual allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. A verbal confrontation erupted between Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi and Ezekwesili, with the former Minister telling the Ebonyi North Senator and Deputy Chief Whip to “shut up.” In response, Nwaebonyi called her a “fool.”

The exchange escalated as Ezekwesili labeled the senator a disgrace to the Senate, while he retorted that she was a disgrace to womanhood.

Taking to her handle on Wednesday, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan praised Ezekwesili for her integrity and courage, acknowledging that the former minister endured the insults on behalf of women.

“Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Ma’am, I sincerely apologize for the insults. You took them for me… for us… as a mother and as a leader. You are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership. Your unwavering dedication to good governance, education, and democracy continues to inspire generations. A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience, and selfless service. You are a hero,” she wrote.
