I Want To Enjoy Nigeria As A Woman In My 70s — Remi Tinubu Speaks On 2031 Exit

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed hope that she will leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 and return to a country where she can comfortably enjoy life as a woman in her 70s.

She made the remarks on Friday, October 23, during the official inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady said she looked forward to the end of her family’s stay at Aso Rock in 2031, expressing optimism that Nigeria would be a place where older citizens could live comfortably.

“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.

According to Bush Radio Academy, her comments reflected her hope for a country where citizens, particularly older people, could enjoy a better quality of life.

The First Lady also responded humorously to critics who argue that the country has yet to make meaningful progress. In her remarks, she referred to JigiBola, an eye-care initiative associated with her husband, President Bola Tinubu, during his tenure as governor of Lagos State.

She suggested that some critics might be failing to recognise developments taking place in the country, joking that they could be given eyeglasses through the initiative.

“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she stated.

Her comments come amid ongoing public debate over the performance of the Tinubu administration and the country’s economic and social conditions.

The remarks have drawn attention to the First Lady’s hopes for Nigeria beyond 2031, as well as her response to those questioning the pace of progress under the current government.
