In an interview with Punch, he recalled that the experience occurred in his late twenties, during a time when he was struggling to make ends meet. He explained that he sometimes could not afford even basic meals and was also facing criticism from people who believed he had made a mistake by leaving a stable teaching job to pursue an uncertain acting career.

According to him, the pressure and hardship left him deeply distressed and at a very low point emotionally. He said the situation became so intense that he briefly had thoughts of self-harm, describing it as the lowest phase of his life, driven by hunger, disappointment, and lack of support.

He added that he eventually found help and encouragement through Pa Olatunbosun Odunsi, who invited him, listened to his struggles, and offered guidance and support that helped him regain hope and direction.
