In its ruling delivered in Abuja, the Court of Appeal held that the Senate acted within its constitutional and parliamentary authority when it suspended Senator Natasha for six months over alleged misconduct. The court ruled that the suspension did not infringe on her constitutional rights or parliamentary privileges.

However, the appellate court struck out the contempt proceedings against her and set aside the ₦5 million fine that had been imposed for publishing a satirical apology addressed to the Senate President.

The judges affirmed that the Senate is empowered by the Constitution and its internal rules to discipline its members, noting that the suspension was valid under parliamentary procedures.

According to Punch, members of Senator Natasha’s legal team described the ruling as a victory for due process and the rule of law, emphasizing that legislative disciplinary powers must be exercised strictly within constitutional and procedural boundaries.

“The Court of Appeal has once again affirmed that no authority is above the law. Where due process is not followed, such actions cannot stand,” a source within her legal team said.

Reacting to the judgment, Senator Natasha took to her Instagram page, writing:
“Zero 0️⃣… Nada 👎… Court of Appeal strikes out the 5m naira fine. Says no apology too 🙂 NO APOLOGY. N5M FINE #UNBOWED #UNBENT #UNBROKEN.”
