Addressing members of the Alubarika Movement, he explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with senior party leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He stated that the demands of his national assignment require complete focus, especially as the APC works to strengthen its internal structures and prepare for the 2027 general elections.
Basiru emphasized that withdrawing from the governorship contest does not signal retreat from progressive politics, but rather a renewed commitment to supporting the party’s leadership in Osun State and across the country. He added that he remains devoted to mentoring emerging political figures within the APC.
He also assured supporters that the Alubarika Movement would work vigorously toward securing President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

He maintained that the APC is equipped to give any political opponent a formidable contest in Osun.
