In a statement on Sunday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, confirmed that the Federal Government approved the closure to facilitate major upgrade works aimed at enhancing infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Orah emphasized that the closure is necessary to implement critical improvements at the airport.
Additionally, the statement revealed that the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency has shut down the runway and suspended airport operations in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.
“The Federal Government has approved the temporary shutdown of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA), Ibadan, to allow for ongoing upgrade works,” the statement read.
“As part of the Oyo State Government’s plan to transform Ibadan Airport from a domestic to an international hub, extensive renovations and remodeling are currently in progress.
“To ensure compliance with aviation safety standards and protocols, the closure is crucial for the protection of passengers and airport personnel.
“FAAN urges all airport users and stakeholders to cooperate and exercise patience during this period,” the statement concluded.
