The incident, which took place last Sunday, involved many church members partaking in the meal prepared for the occasion. Reports indicate that five people lost their lives after eating the food, while about 50 others were subsequently hospitalized. Fortunately, those 50 worshippers were discharged from the center on Saturday.

The feast was part of a traditional event in line with the church’s practices, but it remains unclear if the food caused the fatalities. Authorities have been alerted, and the state ministry of health, along with other relevant stakeholders, is currently investigating the matter.

Adewale Osifeso, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, confirmed on Sunday that an investigation is underway and assured that updates would be provided as the situation develops. “Investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided accordingly,” he stated in response to inquiries from DAILY POST.
