Alabogha, an employee of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), appeared before Justice Ogbonaya at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Zuba on October 30, 2024. She is accused of submitting a forged Bachelor of Education certificate from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to NSITF, fully aware of its falsity. This act is said to violate Section 364 of the Penal Code of the FCT.
Additionally, Alabogha is charged with presenting a falsified confirmation letter from UNICAL, which purportedly verified the authenticity of the forged certificate. This alleged act contravenes Section 25(1)(a) and is punishable under Section 68 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
The defense counsel requested bail for Alabogha, a request that was not opposed by prosecuting counsel Aniekan Ekong. However, Ekong urged that if bail were granted, it should include conditions ensuring the defendant’s availability for trial.
The trial judge ordered Alabogha to be remanded at the Suleja Custodial Facility until a ruling on her bail application is made. The case is set to resume on February 19, 2025, for a hearing on the substantive charges.
