The lawmaker representing Borno Central under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kaka Shehu Lawan, has urged the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, to refrain from politicizing the issue of insecurity in the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This comes after concerns raised by the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, about the escalating security situation in the state, suggesting that Borno “appears to be losing ground to Boko Haram insurgents.” In response, the Minister issued a statement on Wednesday reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to tackling terrorism and banditry across the nation.

However, in a statement released on Thursday, Lawan accused Idris of politicizing the security crisis instead of emulating previous ministers who focused on enhancing the federal government’s image.

He remarked, “Rather than promoting the policies and programs of the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I was shocked to see the Minister politicizing the ongoing insecurity and Boko Haram crisis plaguing the people of Borno and the North East.”

Lawan also criticized Idris’s comments on Governor Zulum’s role, calling them “unfortunate and disrespectful.” He stressed that the Minister, based in Abuja, should not undermine the Governor, who is directly involved in local security matters and regularly receives briefings from security agencies and traditional leaders.

The lawmaker highlighted Governor Zulum’s continuous efforts to complement federal actions against insurgency, including his recent distribution of operational vehicles, motorcycles, and houses to security forces.

“It is disappointing to see the Minister focusing on trivial matters to gain cheap popularity instead of concentrating on his responsibility of positively representing the federal government,” Lawan concluded.
