Igboho firmly stated that he would not stand idly by and allow Gumi to exacerbate the tensions in Nigeria through statements that could incite violence.

Gumi had asserted that Christians cannot be relied upon for Nigeria’s security and called for the removal of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, following his meeting with an Israeli envoy to discuss Abuja’s security.

Accusing President Bola Tinubu of appointing Southern Christians to key positions, Gumi suggested that the current administration might not secure a second term.

In his condemnation of Gumi’s remarks, Igboho alleged that the Sheikh was attempting to renew his negotiation contract with bandits under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement he issued, Igboho emphasized, “We are well aware of Gumi’s background and his tactics. Prior to Tinubu’s rise, individuals like him should have been answering for their roles in the ongoing insurgency in northern Nigeria.”

“While we continue to advocate for a fair society, we will not tolerate Gumi’s disruptive and provocative comments made through his preaching. The security of Nigeria, as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution, should not be manipulated by anyone, regardless of their status.

“We do not align with the Federal Government, but we are essential participants in Nigeria’s development. Therefore, it is essential to promote sanity and civility in the messages of anyone displaying signs of religious extremism.”

For the sake of lasting peace, it is crucial for everyone to refrain from actions that foster mutual suspicion, distrust, and unnecessary conflicts among Nigerians.
