In a post on his Facebook page, Igbokwe acknowledged El-Rufai’s significant contributions to APC’s victory in the 2023 elections but criticized his recent remarks, stating they were unbecoming of a politician of his stature.
“I urge my good friend, HE El-Rufai, to put an end to these statements I see daily. He is above this. His sons should also observe silence, at least for now.
I fully recognize the sacrifices Malam made for APC to succeed in 2023—he dug the deepest well for the party. However, this public spectacle is entirely negative and unworthy of his status. I call him the Stormy Petrel. Dazzol,” Igbokwe stated.
His remarks come in response to El-Rufai’s recent defection from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after expressing discontent with the ruling party’s internal democracy.
In an interview with the BBC, El-Rufai accused the APC-led government of straying from its founding ideals, alleging that appointments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration are now based on favoritism rather than merit.
