Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has issued orders for a thorough investigation and immediate reinforcement of human and material resources in Plateau State following the December 24 assault on several communities. Egbetokun instructed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) for the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and the DIG for the Department of Force Intelligence to form a high-powered investigative team. The IGP emphasized that this team would work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In addressing the recurring crisis in the state, Egbetokun stated that both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches were being employed by the police and other security agencies. He appealed to the warring factions, residents, and the entire state to embrace peace, reject violence, and avoid unwarranted loss of innocent lives.
Condemning the attack as barbaric, reprehensible, and inhumane, Egbetokun extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, the loved ones of the deceased, and the government and people of Plateau State. The IGP pledged to ensure that those responsible for the heinous acts would face the full force of the law and would not experience peace until justice was served.
He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the citizens, vowing to remain resolute in fulfilling this duty.
