Egbetokun revealed that the military might be deployed to monitor protests if there are substantial concerns that they could turn violent, similar to the 2020 #EndSARS protests. However, he stressed that military involvement would only occur if the situation deteriorates.
He also reported that several individuals have been arrested for threatening violence or inciting others to commit violent acts. For instance, one person was detained for threatening to bomb public places and set fire to police stations.
Egbetokun stated, “Many of those threatening violence remain faceless, but we have apprehended some who have been traced. One recent arrest involved an individual who was inciting people to attack public spaces and police stations.”
Regarding military involvement, he clarified that the military would not be deployed for routine security during protests but only if the situation escalates significantly. He noted, “The military’s role will be reactive, not proactive. We must remember that during the #EndSARS protests, several police stations were destroyed in a single day before a curfew was imposed by the Lagos government.”
