Ikem, Cross River PDP Chairperson, Expresses Regret: Not Proud Of My Role

The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Vena Ikem, expressed deep regret over the challenges faced by the party during his tenure. He admitted dissatisfaction with leading a party that failed to win the 2023 governorship election and experienced significant membership losses. Ikem outlined plans for a complete overhaul of the party to facilitate a comeback in future elections.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Calabar over the weekend, Ikem acknowledged internal conflicts and lack of unity as reasons for their defeat in the governorship race. Despite this, he highlighted the party’s enduring grassroots support and took responsibility for the election outcome.

Ikem urged stakeholders to prioritize collective interests over personal agendas, emphasizing the PDP’s resilience and determination to rebound. Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe also reinforced confidence in the party’s grassroots strength and criticized the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting opportunities for the PDP’s resurgence.

Meanwhile, Prof. Sandy Onor, the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election, reassured supporters of the party’s eventual recovery and resurgence.
