I’m Not Stepping Aside!’ — Kumuyi Slams Critics Demanding His Exit Video

Speaking during a Bible study session, the 83-year-old cleric shared how a member had persistently preached about the need for a successor. In response, he once asked the congregation, “Are you tired of me?”—a question that was met with a resounding “Nooo” from the audience.
Kumuyi criticised a young preacher who had twice declared that “there is no leadership without a successor,” saying: “I felt that was too much, especially since your father is still here. God will appoint a successor at His own time.”
Quoting biblical examples, he cautioned: “You are not going to fight your shepherd or your pilot. I reject any attempt—whether from a worker, choir member, security personnel, or even my wife—to control me. I am the head of my home and I stand where I stand. No one will put me under pressure.”
He urged members not to weaken his mission or convictions, warning: “Don’t try to kill my conviction. That will only make me resist you more. I will keep telling you this, even in the face of resistance, until the end.”
While acknowledging that he often allows gifted members to preach, Kumuyi insisted that succession “is in God’s hands.” He added: “If God has given you a pastor who is still active at this age, and you’re asking for a successor, it feels like you’re tired of seeing me. Don’t make me feel like I’m imposing myself on you.”
Concluding firmly, he said: “When the time comes, God will choose a man after His own heart. Don’t try to push me away—even though I know you can’t.”
