The Imo State Police Command has announced the demotion of its officer captured on video extorting money from motorists along the Owerri-Onitsha express road.

In the viral footage, the officer can be seen receiving payments from drivers using the road and providing change when necessary.

According to a statement released today, May 27, by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, the implicated officer, Inspector Isong Osudueh, assigned to the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) in Owerri, has been recommended for a reduction in rank following thorough disciplinary proceedings. Additionally, the supervising officer has received an official query for failing to supervise adequately.

“The disciplinary measures taken against the implicated officer highlight the Command’s firm commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and integrity among its personnel. This is crucial in fulfilling its lawful obligations and fostering public trust and confidence,” the statement emphasized.

Expressing strong condemnation for the disgraceful conduct, Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reiterated that the Command will not tolerate any form of extortion or misconduct by its officers. He further warned that any supervisory officer neglecting their oversight duties will face severe consequences.
