Imo State Police Detain Alleged Robbery Culprit Retrieve Pistol And Bullets

In a joint operation between the Imo State Police and local vigilantes, a notorious armed robbery suspect, identified as Izea John Chukwuebuka, aged 23, has been successfully apprehended. The suspect was intercepted on his route to Alaba International Market in Owerri on Friday, as reported by Naija News.

Hailing from Asa Community in Ohaji, Chukwuebuka was found in possession of a locally crafted pistol along with two live rounds of ammunition.

Police spokesperson Henry Okoye elaborated on the circumstances surrounding the arrest in a statement issued on Friday. According to Okoye, the operation, conducted on April 9, 2024, revealed significant insights into the suspect’s criminal endeavors.

“The suspect, apprehended through a well-coordinated effort with local vigilantes, confessed to his involvement in robbing unsuspecting individuals at various locations including Alaba International Market, Douglas Market, Tetlow, and other commercial areas within the state,” the statement read.

Chukwuebuka further disclosed his affiliation with a larger criminal network operating within the Ama Hausa Market, where stolen goods are traded for monetary gain.

Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to dismantle this network, targeting both the receivers of stolen goods and the sellers and manufacturers of locally crafted firearms involved in the syndicate.

“The police are actively pursuing the apprehension of his accomplices, particularly those involved in receiving stolen items, as well as those responsible for manufacturing and selling locally made firearms,” the statement further affirmed.

Chukwuebuka is slated to be transferred to the state headquarters for further investigation and consolidation of the case.
