The governor explained that this measure aims to secure mining sites while a newly formed technical committee reviews and verifies operators with legitimate licenses.

He highlighted the surge in illegal mining and the growing insecurity linked to such activities in various local government areas. Additionally, he expressed concern over the increasing influx of foreign nationals into mining areas, which has exacerbated security threats, including crimes such as rape, banditry, illegal arms possession, drug trafficking, and kidnapping.

Mutfwang stated that the state government would collaborate with the federal government to clarify the roles and responsibilities of relevant authorities in mining regulation. He emphasized the need to establish clear standards and a monitoring framework involving the state, local governments, host communities, and mineral rights holders.

Furthermore, the governor announced a comprehensive security review of all mining sites to ensure that host communities benefit from mineral resource exploitation through sustainable socio-economic contributions from mining companies.
