Counter-terrorism expert in the Lake Chad Basin, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this on Tuesday, attributing the development to heightened military operations under Operation Hadarin Daji and Operation Forest Sanity, aimed at capturing Turji and dismantling his network in Zamfara State and its environs.
Makama, citing security sources, revealed that Turji’s decision was driven by mounting pressure from the Nigerian Armed Forces. Recent airstrikes and coordinated ground assaults on his hideouts in Fakai, Shinkafi, and neighboring areas have significantly disrupted his operations, leaving his group vulnerable and forcing their retreat.
Military forces have reiterated their commitment to capturing Turji, declaring they will get him “dead or alive.”
Makama added, “The decision to release the hostages appears to be a strategic move by Turji to avoid further escalation or direct confrontation with security forces, who are closing in on him.”
