In Response To Hunger Protests, NBA Launches Free Legal Services In 130 Locations

NBA President Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) announced the move through the association’s National Publicity Secretary, Akorede Lawal. He directed all branch chairpersons to address any breaches of fundamental rights, including harassment or abuse by law enforcement or other parties during the protests.

Maikyau emphasized the importance of peaceful protest and urged law enforcement to uphold human rights. He also announced the formation of a situation monitoring committee to oversee interactions between protesters and security forces.

The NBA’s statement detailed the establishment of Legal Support Services teams, led by NBA’s 1st Vice President Linda Rose Bala, NBA-SPIDEL Chairman Sir Steve Adehi (SAN), and NBA Human Rights Institute Chairman Mr. Chinonye Obiagwu (SAN). The NBA has also requested cooperation from the Inspector General of Police to support these efforts.

The association encouraged all participants and security agencies to act within legal boundaries to ensure the protests remain peaceful and rights are respected.
