Of the accredited groups, 124 are domestic, while 10 are international. The elections are scheduled for September 21 and November 16, respectively.

In a statement on Monday, Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, revealed that out of 153 applications received, 134 met the required criteria for accreditation.

Among the accredited groups, 28 are gender-based, three represent persons with disabilities, eight are faith-based, 10 are international, and over 100 are involved in areas relevant to INEC’s functions.

Olumekun stated, “In preparation for the 2024 Edo and Ondo governorship elections, we are pleased to update on the accreditation of observers. After thorough review, 134 groups have been accredited.”

He urged the selected organizations to move forward in the registration process by uploading the personal details and photographs of their field observers to INEC’s dedicated portal. Additionally, a one-day training session for the representatives of the observer groups is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
