emphasized the critical need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain impartiality and transparency to restore public trust.

Yabagi Sani, the National Chairman of IPAC, conveyed this message during the INEC Quarterly Consultative Meeting with political party leaders in Abuja.

He acknowledged that the 2023 general election has been marked by significant controversies, resulting in substantial challenges in the electoral process.

While recognizing that INEC has put forth considerable effort in its preparations despite obstacles, he emphasized the necessity of further action to ensure that elections in Nigeria are conducted without complications, are credible, and adhere to the provisions of the contentious 2022 Electoral Act.

Yabagi emphasized that, as the guardian of democracy, INEC should address this issue comprehensively. He noted, “To restore citizens’ confidence, INEC must consistently exhibit impartiality, transparency, and a commitment to organizing free, fair, and credible elections. This is not only a moral imperative but a crucial step in upholding the integrity of our democratic system.”

Yabagi challenged INEC to work diligently in persuading security agencies to adhere to the rules of engagement and resist the influence of desperate politicians.

He stressed that the involvement of security agencies in the electoral process should be guided by professionalism, neutrality, and a commitment to safeguarding democracy rather than partisan interests.

The IPAC chairman also highlighted the importance of ensuring the prompt and secure delivery of both sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials to the states. Delays or mishandling of these materials can raise suspicions and undermine the overall credibility of the election.
