INEC Releases Final Candidate List For FCT Area Council Elections Details Inside
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of candidates for the February 21, 2026, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the commission said political parties can no longer substitute or withdraw candidates except in the event of death, as stipulated in Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act.
Olumekun recalled that on August 18, 2025, INEC had released the personal details of candidates who emerged from party primaries. He noted that 17 political parties submitted candidate particulars (Form EC9) before the deadline of August 11, 2025.
“At the close of the withdrawal and substitution period, the commission has now published the final list of candidates for the 2026 FCT Area Council elections,” the statement read.
According to INEC, the list—containing party affiliations, ages, genders, and academic qualifications of candidates—has been uploaded to its official website and social media platforms for public access.
The commission reaffirmed that the elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
