The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has officially posted the notice for the Surulere Federal Constituency I by-election in compliance with legal requirements. INEC adheres to the stipulations of Section 28 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022, ensuring that the notice is made public at least 14 days before the election date. Oriowo emphasized that the commission has initiated the implementation of activities and timetable for the upcoming elections, assuring the public of INEC’s commitment to strict adherence to relevant laws and guidelines.
The spokesperson affirmed that INEC is fully prepared to conduct a credible bye-election in the Surulere constituency, with the election scheduled for February 3, 2024. The timetable outlines key dates, including the period for party primary elections and the resolution of disputes arising from these primaries, set to occur between January 5 and 9. Political parties will commence public campaigns from January 18, concluding on February 1.
The vacancy in the Surulere seat arose from the resignation of the former occupant, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who, upon winning, was appointed as Chief of Staff by President Bola Tinubu.
