INEC Speaks On Alleged New Voter Registration Date Ahead Of 2027
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports claiming that it has commenced a fresh nationwide voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the electoral body raised the alarm over a fraudulent website circulating online and falsely announcing that a new Nationwide Online Voter Registration exercise would run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
INEC, in a statement issued on Saturday, described the information as false and stressed that the website has no connection with the Commission.
The electoral body warned members of the public against visiting the fraudulent platform or submitting personal information through it, noting that doing so could expose sensitive data to being harvested or misused.
INEC further clarified that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026, and that any claim suggesting that a new nationwide online registration exercise is currently being conducted through the circulating website is false. INEC’s official voter portal likewise states that the CVR exercise has ended.
The Commission urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify electoral information through its official communication channels before taking any action.
INEC also advised members of the public to disregard the fraudulent registration announcement and rely only on information released through the Commission’s verified platforms as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
