Insecurity Propaganda: IGP Raises Alarm Over Circulation Of Fake Videos To Tarnish Police Image!

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has criticized individuals behind the circulation of old videos online, depicting Nigeria Police Force operatives lamenting poor welfare conditions.

Egbetokun described the footage as outdated, accusing those spreading them of attempting to tarnish the image of the police and jeopardize national security.

In a statement released on Wednesday through the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP referenced two specific clips: one showing a Police Mobile Force (PMF) officer complaining about hardship faced during deployment to Yobe State, and another featuring a Counter Terrorism Unit officer alleging that banditry is politically driven and that the government is endangering officers’ lives.

According to Egbetokun, both videos are from several years ago and have been addressed thoroughly after investigations. He urged Nigerians to disregard these recycled clips, stressing that they do not reflect the current situation within the Force.

“The Nigeria Police Force is seriously concerned about the growing trend of re-uploading old footage to discredit the institution and threaten internal security,” the statement read.

He added, “Despite efforts to build public trust, this mischief of recycling misleading videos poses a serious threat to national stability. For instance, the PMF officer’s video dates back several years. The issues raised were not ignored—administrative measures were taken to resolve the concerns. Reposting it now is a clear attempt to stir public unrest and smear the Force’s reputation.”

The IGP also refuted claims in the second video, noting that an investigation revealed the allegations to be false. Disciplinary action was taken against the officers involved for spreading misinformation.

“The content of these videos does not align with the realities in today’s Nigeria Police Force,” the statement concluded.
