Obasa Under Fire: APC Members Cry Foul Over Imposed Candidates In Lagos Full Details

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, took to the streets on Tuesday to protest the alleged imposition of candidates ahead of the upcoming local government elections set for July 12, 2025.

The demonstration echoed the uproar that occurred during a party stakeholders’ meeting on April 14, 2025, which was cut short due to similar grievances over candidate selection.

On Tuesday, supporters of various chairmanship hopefuls gathered at the APC party secretariat and later marched to the LCDA secretariat, voicing their anger over what they described as undemocratic imposition of candidates.

The protesters, many openly backing specific aspirants, chanted slogans such as: “He is not part of us, no room for strangers in our LCDA,” “Elders and leaders are to build, not destroy,” and “We want a true indigene to lead, not an outsider.”

With fists raised, they continued with chants like: “Don’t sell Ojokoro to strangers,” “Say no to outsiders,” and “Give us one of our own!”

They also brandished placards bearing messages such as: “We don’t want it, we don’t like it – strangers can’t lead us,” “Hon. Ojelabi, the APC chairman, rescue Ojokoro APC,” and “Obasa is forcing imposition on us – no to dictatorship.”

Addressing journalists, one of the protest coordinators, Olusegun Akinoso-Olawaye, stressed that no imposed candidate should be ratified by the party.

“Let every aspirant face the field in a free and fair primary. We are peaceful members of the APC, but we firmly reject any form of imposition,” he declared.

He added, “We’re here to demand fairness. Imposing leaders is unjust and unacceptable. Every aspirant deserves a level playing ground. Our leaders must not push loyal party members to the brink.”

Raimot Bello, another protest leader, echoed his stance, warning against the attempt to install a non-indigene as the next council chairman, a move she believes could backfire and harm the unity and success of the party.
