The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Usman, has resigned from office, attributing his decision to personal reasons.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement personally signed and released in Abuja on Tuesday, Usman disclosed that his resignation took effect on Monday, February 9, 2026.

“It is with deep reflection and gratitude to Almighty Allah that I announce my decision to step down as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON,” he said.

Usman stressed that the decision was purely personal, explaining that it followed careful prayer, reflection, and consultations with his family.

“I wish to state clearly that this decision is entirely personal. After prayerful consideration and family consultations, I have chosen to take this step in good conscience and with full respect for the responsibilities of public service,” he added.

He confirmed that he had formally informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of his resignation in line with Section 3(6) of the NAHCON Establishment Act, 2006, and expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve.

“The confidence reposed in me remains a great honour that I will always appreciate,” Usman said.

The former NAHCON chairman also thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima for his guidance, encouragement, and consistent support throughout his tenure.

Usman commended members of the commission’s board, management, and staff for their cooperation and professionalism, noting that their dedication contributed significantly to improvements in Nigeria’s Hajj operations.

He further acknowledged the support of State Pilgrims Welfare Agencies, tour operators, aviation service providers, and Saudi Arabian authorities in ensuring the success of Hajj exercises.

Dismissing speculations of internal disputes or government-related issues, Usman clarified that his resignation was not prompted by any disagreement or dissatisfaction.

“This decision is solely driven by personal considerations and does not reflect any discontent with the commission, the federal government, or the mandate we pursued together,” he stated.

As he exited office, Usman offered prayers for the nation, the President, and the incoming leadership of NAHCON, asking for divine guidance and success in future Hajj operations.
