This meeting took place just a week following the Supreme Court’s confirmation of Abba Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) as the governor of Kano State. In March, the political landscape in Kano witnessed a shift away from the APC, as Gawuna secured 890,705 votes, trailing behind Yusuf, who was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission with 1,019,602 votes.

In response to the electoral outcome, Gawuna contested the results in court, ultimately leading to the Appeal Court declaring him the rightful governor. However, on January 12, the Supreme Court reinstated Yusuf as the governor, marking a significant development in the political dynamics of Kano State.
