In a statement on Friday, Soji Oye, NJC Director of Information, revealed that the Council has also established four investigative panels to examine allegations of judicial misconduct against 27 high court judges. This decision came after the NJC’s 106th meeting, chaired by the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, during which the Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee reviewed 22 petitions against these judges.

The NJC decided to set up the panels to investigate the allegations deemed substantial. However, 18 petitions were dismissed due to lack of merit, abandonment, or being subjudice. The dismissed petitions involved several high-profile judges, including Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem of the Court of Appeal, Justice John Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and others from various courts across Nigeria.
