Isbae U Reveals How 2022 Controversy Almost Made Him Quit His Career

Nigerian content creator Adebayo Ridwan, popularly known as Isbae U, has opened up about the difficult period he experienced following the controversy that surrounded him in 2022, revealing that the backlash made him question whether his career was over.

Speaking during an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown, Isbae U recalled how the intense public reaction affected him, particularly as people who had previously praised and supported his work began posting negative comments about him.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the content creator said the experience was unfamiliar and difficult for him, prompting him to seek advice from fellow comedian and skit maker Mr Macaroni.

Isbae U said he asked Mr Macaroni whether the situation marked the end of his career because he was uncertain about what would happen after the controversy and the widespread criticism that followed.

He explained that the experience taught him how quickly public opinion can change when a public figure becomes embroiled in controversy. According to him, some people who had consistently supported his work suddenly turned against him and began expressing negative views.

“2022 was a tough time for me. It was the first time I was going through something like that, and then I asked Mr Macaroni, ‘Is this the end?’” he recalled.

Isbae U said he eventually decided not to allow the backlash to derail his career. Instead, he focused on improving his craft, becoming a better person and continuing to provide entertainment for his audience.

He also revealed that he deliberately reduced the amount of personal information he shared publicly during the period, choosing to keep aspects of his private life away from social media while remaining focused on his creative work.

The content creator said the experience helped him understand the nature of public opinion and the importance of concentrating on personal growth rather than allowing criticism to dictate his career.

Reflecting on his work, Isbae U also explained that his popular interview programme, “Curiosity Made Me Ask,” is designed to reveal sides of celebrities that audiences may not ordinarily see. He added that he would be interested in interviewing United States President Donald Trump.
