It Broke My Heart — Banky W Reveals How 2023 Election Defeat Changed His Life

Nigerian singer, actor and entrepreneur Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has opened up about how his defeat in the 2023 general election affected him emotionally and influenced his journey into pastoral ministry.

The entertainer, who contested for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), disclosed that the electoral loss left him heartbroken and forced him to reconsider his purpose in life.

Banky W shared the experience while marking his first anniversary as a pastor, reflecting on how the disappointment led him to seek God’s direction regarding his future.

He explained that after the election, he began questioning whether he should concentrate on politics, entertainment, business or ministry, as he struggled to determine the path he was meant to follow.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the singer said the experience ultimately pushed him to surrender his plans to God and seek clarity about his calling.

Banky W noted that he eventually realised he did not have to choose between his different interests, explaining that his spiritual journey helped him understand how his professional and ministerial responsibilities could coexist.

He said he had initially viewed his various pursuits as separate paths, but later came to believe that God was broadening his responsibilities rather than directing him to abandon his existing careers.

The entertainer maintained that he remains active as a filmmaker, musician and entrepreneur while also serving as a pastor and professor.

Reflecting on the past year, Banky W said the election outcome had not aligned with his expectations, but he had come to see the experience as part of a bigger purpose for his life.

He added that what initially felt like a painful ending eventually became an opportunity for a new beginning, expressing gratitude for the direction his life had taken since then.

Banky W’s reflection highlights how the disappointment of an unsuccessful political ambition became a turning point in his spiritual journey, leading him to embrace pastoral ministry alongside his established careers.
