Building on this observation, he urged member nations of the Commonwealth to rally behind Nigeria’s bid to host the Commonwealth Centenary Games in 2030.
According to him, granting Nigeria the hosting rights would not only underscore the spirit of unity but also affirm that Africa is an essential part of the Commonwealth’s story and central to its future.
Writing on his account, the President declared:
“To the Commonwealth Family,
It is time for Africa. After 100 years of the Commonwealth Games, they have never been staged on African soil. Bringing the Centenary Games to Nigeria in 2030 will send a powerful message that every region of the Commonwealth counts, and that Africa is not only part of the narrative, but a key driver of its future.
Nigeria is the gateway. Africa is the stage. The Commonwealth is the family. Let us make history together in 2030. Let us complete the circle of Commonwealth unity.
The dream must be realized. The time is now.”
Earlier, Tinubu had expressed confidence in Nigeria’s readiness to host the 2030 Games, assuring that the country would deliver a world-class competition that reflects the diversity, strength, and potential of the African continent.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the President made this commitment while receiving the Commonwealth Sport Bid Evaluation Committee at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He reiterated that Nigeria is not only capable of hosting but also determined to seize the moment and make history.
