It’s Harder For Female Artistes To Blow — Fave Reveals Industry Struggles

Nigerian singer Fave has opened up about what she believes are some of the additional challenges female artistes encounter while trying to establish themselves in the music industry.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Fave argued that female musicians are often judged not only on their musical talent but also on their physical appearance, clothing and perceived attractiveness.

The singer said the scrutiny can sometimes shift attention away from a female artiste’s music, with audiences focusing instead on her body, dressing and how she is perceived.

“It’s harder for female artists to blow. Female artists aren’t measured by talent but by what they wear. If your tummy isn’t flat… it’s never really about the music; it’s more about people’s sexual desires or their fantasies about you,” she said.

Fave described the situation as a problem, noting that female artistes may feel pressured to meet particular standards of appearance before their music receives adequate attention.

She further argued that the emphasis on how women dress can affect the way their artistic abilities are perceived, particularly when appearance becomes a bigger talking point than their work.

“And I think that right there is a problem, because it becomes more about how decently you are dressed before people listen to you,” the singer added.

Fave also maintained that male artistes do not face the same level of scrutiny over their physical appearance, suggesting that the difference creates an additional challenge for women seeking recognition in the industry.

“But when it comes to men, they aren’t held to that same standard,” she said.

The singer further expressed confidence in the abilities of female performers, stating that women often bring strong performances to the stage.

“When it comes to performances, female artists perform better,” Fave said.
