Iyabo expressed disappointment at how some adults twisted the narrative and targeted both the victim and Princess, rather than offering support. She emphasized that as entertainers, they have a moral duty to lead by example and uphold positive values.

“I remember when the rape case happened—the young girl who was allegedly molested by one of my senior colleagues,” she said. “I couldn’t hold back my emotions because I was enraged by what happened. It hit close to home, as I had been through similar experiences even more than once. I just felt enough is enough—someone needs to speak up for both the girl and boy child.”

She continued, “It was shocking to see adults twisting the story and attacking the child and Princess. That’s when I realized how far behind we still are in Nigeria on issues like this.”

Iyabo added that she holds entertainers to a higher moral standard because of their influence:
“When I criticize my fellow entertainers, it’s because I believe we must act responsibly. As public figures, we are like evangelists—our roles in movies often preach values. If we portray a bad character, the outcome should show that wrongdoing has consequences. We can’t be preaching good behavior on screen and living the opposite in real life. It hits harder when someone in the public eye does something wrong.”
